Homes for Sale in Buckeye
The city of Buckeye has experienced a phenomenal history of growth and prosperity. This growth is due in no small part to the canal system that was built in May, 1885, some years after the town’s founding in 1877, and was completed in 1886. The canal was laid out and constructed by Malie M. Jackson and his partners, J.L. Spain and Henry Mitchell, and was named “Buckeye” in honor of Jackson’s home state of Ohio. Jackson and his partners were paid by the Clanton family, the original founders of the town and organizers of the Buckeye Canal Company, and built the first five miles of the canal.
Today, Buckeye is the suburb farthest to the west in the Phoenix major metropolitan area and has grown considerably fast in recent years. In the year 2000, the census put the population of Buckeye at 6,537, which grew by 678.3% to a population of 50,876 by the 2010 census. Buckeye is home to several master planned communities such as Sundance, Verrado, Westpark, Tartesso, Festival Ranch, and more. More such communities are in development as the area continues to grow.
Amenities and shopping are not a rarity in Buckeye by a longshot. The Sundance Towne Center opened in 2007 just south of the I-10, one of the major freeways through the Greater Phoenix area. This shopping mall contains national retail anchors, boutiques, traditional restaurants and unique eateries; everything you need for a day out. There are even places like Lowe’s for your home improvement needs, an Auto Zone for those who love working on cars, and all sorts of other stores that one expects in a mall.
Buckeye is, without a doubt, a fantastic city to call home. Between the carnivals, festivals, rodeos, street dances, and other events going on all year round, Buckeye is a place where there’s always something to see and do, so come on down to Buckeye and find your dream home today.
