Homes for Sale in Apache Junction
Named for its location on the Apache Trail and US Route 60, the small town of Apache Junction is a quiet, serene location at the base of the famous Superstition Mountain. The population of Apache Junction stays roughly around 42,000 year-round until the winter months when the snowbirds come to enjoy the warm, sunny weather and the population swells to roughly 77,000.
This small population and quiet community has enabled Apache Junction to maintain the flavor and personality of a true Western town, making it a peaceful and fun place to call home.
This quiet atmosphere, paired with the astounding scenery surrounding the area, has made Apache Junction one of the most popular locations in cinema culture. The town is named in several skits by the stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias and more recently the destination of Sylvester Stallone’s character in The Expendables 3 to meet Antonio Banderas’ character. Apache Junction was also one of the filming locations for the HBO film, Blind Justice, as well as a scene from Jerry Maguire, and is referred to as the suburb that most resembles the North Path in the film Bad Santa.
Even in such a remote location, there’s plenty to do in and around Apache Junction. One of the annual favorites is the Renaissance Festival, featuring food, games, music, dancing, and more. Just to the south, you’ll find the Goldfield Ghost Town. Originally a mining town that sprang up around the gold mine, Goldfield died out after the vein did, only five years later.
Now, the ghost town is a popular tourist destination, offering tours of the mines, providing drinks and food at the saloon, and even authentic gunfight shows, courtesy of the Goldfield Gunfighters. For a deeper look into history, visit the Superstition Mountain Museum and discover how the mountain came about its name.
